The Small Claims Court of Ontario
The Small Claims Court of Ontario is a civil court of equity where individuals or businesses may obtain justice by initiating or defending claims. The term equity implies that the decision of the court will be to return the parties to the position they were in before the cause of action arose.
On January 1, 2010 the financial limit of the Small Claims Court of Ontario was increased to $25,000.00 by the Attorney General and parties to an action may sue for money or the return of personal property valued at $25,000.00 (Canadian) or less, not including interest and costs. The current financial limit of the Small Claims Court of Ontario is $25,000.
